At approximately 1605, Fireboard alerted units from Company 1 to the area of St. Andrews Church Rd and Fairgrounds Road for the reported brush fire. As units were responding, Capt 1B (Holmes) was in the area advising of a large column of smoke could be seen from his location. He arrived on scene shortly after advising of a large field and woods on fire.
Chief 1A arrived on scene shortly after, establishing the command. At this time, he began requesting numerous brush units, bringing Brush 4 (Capt. Hawkins) to the scene. Brush 4 was assigned to assist units in fighting a large fire in two separate fields. Brush 4 utilized the booster reel and the bumper nozzles to contain the edges and further prevent the fire from going into the woods. Shortly after Brush 4's arrival, Command requested a general alarm.
At this time, Jeep 4 (FF/EMT Morris) responded to the scene, Jeep 4 was tasked with knocking out hotspots in hard to reach areas of the woods. Because of the narrow path in the woods, the only vehicles able to access the woods were UTV's and Jeeps. Brush 4 and Jeep 4 operated on scene for approximately three and a half hours before returning to service.
